Located in Latin America’s largest wine producing region, Mendoza is a popular tourist destination not only for its wine but also for its proximity to Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas. Furthermore, Mendoza offers access to beautiful scenery and outdoor adventures such as hiking, mountain climbing, horse riding, river rafting and more.
The capital of the Mendoza Province in western Argentina, Mendoza features an elaborate irrigation system that promotes greenery throughout the city and outlying grape vineyards. At the heart of Mendoza is its main square, Independence Plaza, which is surrounded by restaurants, shops, museums and beautiful buildings that are illuminated at night. The city’s most popular park, the San Martin Park, offers walking and biking trails, a zoo, football stadium and pathway to Mt. Glory.
Many hotels and tour agencies in Mendoza offer assistance to visitors wishing to explore the area’s attractions. Many of the local wineries offer tours and wine tasting events. The nearby mountains are popular for trekking, mountain climbing, paragliding and snow skiing. There are also ranches in the area where visitors can learn about local farm life and enjoy horse riding.
Mendoza features a lively nightlife with plenty of nice restaurants, bars and clubs. Food choices range from Argentine beef and local wines to international dishes. The city is home to year-round festivals of which the Harvest Festival in February is the most important.
Public transportation in Mendoza includes buses, trolleys and taxis.
