Chott Meriem is an up and coming area, located between two ports, with Hergla 8 km to the north and Port El Kantaoui 5 km towards the south. It is proving a popular area for new build apartments given the previously inexpensive land.

It is little wonder that this resort is fast growing in popularity, with a location only 5 minutes from the Marina and champion golf course at El Kantaoui, and only 40 minutes from Monastir Airport. Tunisia’s new international airport at Enfidha is only 25 km away and the proposed new ferry port atHergla a 10 minute drive, all adding up to make it a near perfect location for investment "technically". I say "technically" as the recession/global financial crisis has resulted in a lot of unfinished development and at this stage which could go either way. There may also be some issues with how some plots have been bought as previously the land would have been agricultural/set aside in nature so if your interested you always need to be doubly diligent... and also double check you wont have a skyscraper next to you when you visit next 

The assumption was that developers where going to buy lots of cheap land (hence the space before you get to PEK/sousse) and then build some expensive for Tunisians/cheap for tourists apartments and houses. However at the moment that ship has sailed for the time being leaving lots of developments. That said long term this area will no doubt grow along the road to meet the other tourist resorts. This much development also means that out of season you don't have the locals there as you would in other Tunisian towns which can result in some lonely times during the winter.

Although so close, Chott Meriem couldn’t be more different to the tourist resort of Port El Kantaouiand looks like a typical Arab village. The Technical Centre of Organic Agriculture and the Higher School of Horticulture are both situated there and if you are looking for plants, there are numerous nurseries /garden centres dotted along the roadside. The new road from Port El Kantaoui through toHergla Lake makes driving infinitely easier and kinder to your car’s suspension!

For those looking for total relaxation, beautiful beaches, calm and tranquility, Chott Meriem is certainly the place to be!
